Frequently asked questions
-
A vocational evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that identifies your skills, interests, aptitudes, and work-related strengths through the use of standardized testing. This may include tests of academic achievement, career interests, cognitive or learning abilities, and occupational skills. In addition to testing, the evaluation includes a thorough review of your personal history—such as your education, work experience, medical and psychiatric background, and any other relevant factors—to provide objective insight for career planning, training recommendations, or employment guidance.
-
Vocational evaluations are used across a variety of fields and settings, including Vocational Rehabilitation, disability determination, education and transition planning, workers' compensation, return-to-work programs, and even family law or personal injury cases. They help answer key questions about a person's employability, support planning for career development or re-entry, and provide objective documentation for legal, educational, or employment-related decisions.
-
Our services are ideal for individuals with disabilities, those participating in Vocational Rehabilitation programs, jobseekers exploring new career paths, students preparing for post-secondary transitions, or anyone needing insight into their employment potential. We also support professionals, attorneys, and agencies who require clear, well-documented vocational assessments for their clients.
-
A functional capacity assessment is a non-medical evaluation designed to objectively identify a person’s vocational strengths and barriers to employment. At EVALU8, we assess key areas such as mobility, communication, self-care, self-direction, interpersonal skills, work tolerance, work skills, and academic abilities. Each area is examined in relation to how it may impact a person’s ability to obtain, maintain, or advance in employment or training. The assessment is based on a combination of self-report, standardized test results, behavioral observations, and a thorough review of relevant records—including educational, work, medical, and psychiatric history. This process helps clarify the person’s current capabilities and whether any supports, accommodations, or further services may be beneficial.
-
A situational assessment is an observational evaluation that takes place while you perform real or simulated work tasks. This helps assess how well you handle job-related responsibilities, follow directions, maintain pace, and interact with others in a work-like environment. When conducted in your current workplace, it provides valuable insight into your functioning on the job and helps determine any support or modifications you may need to succeed.
-
A job analysis involves a detailed breakdown of the tasks, responsibilities, and physical/cognitive demands of a specific job. For individuals already employed, this analysis can help determine whether the position is a good fit, identify accommodations if needed, or inform job retention strategies. It also assists employers in understanding the essential functions of the job, which is helpful for creating inclusive workplaces.
-
A transferable skills analysis looks at your previous education, work history, and experiences to determine what skills you already have that could be applied to other types of jobs. This is especially helpful if you're considering a career change, recovering from an injury, or unable to return to your past line of work. The analysis provides targeted job suggestions that align with your existing skills, minimizing the need for retraining.
-
Labor market surveys gather up-to-date information about job availability, wages, growth trends, and hiring conditions in specific industries and regions. These surveys help determine whether certain occupations are viable based on your location and goals, and whether they align with your skills and qualifications. This ensures that career planning is rooted in realistic, data-driven opportunities.
